I just finished playing Okami for the Wii, and oh my gosh, it needs a journal. For anyone who doesn't know, it is a game involving a lot of Japanese mythology and drawing. There are a bunch of brush techniques, a twirl for wind, a circle on the water for a lily pad, a crescent for the moon, and is one of the most creative games I've ever played. The graphics are beautiful, Japanese-style art and there is some very awesome music, and I really think anyone who likes Japanese stuff and drawing should give it a try. One of the best 46 hours ever! (I know, I'm a slowpoke at games.) Oh, and you get to play as a wolf. Wolves are awesome!
Well, my little review up there doesn't give the game justice at all, but words cannot describe this game's magnificence. I've played many games, many, and few have moved me as this one did (I would also include my dear Super Paper Mario among that short list), and I am suddenly struck with inspiration the likes I haven't felt in too long. Not only do I want to do some fan art to try and show my feelings for the game, but to also come up with my own ideas, however inferior they may be. Most of us know how hard it is to think up good ideas, I'm sure, while some people can just churn out one great thing after another. It feels like my creative ideas, if they exist, are stuck in a back part of my brain, like a pool of water behind a cork. Sometimes, an idea manages to sneak through, but I can't get out the rest. I hope I can eventually break down that barrier until what good ideas I may have come flooding out. What better way to begin than with the help of Okami? I hope I can soon start making better art for everyone to see. And I'm not sure why my writing became kind of fancy for a while.
